A set of carrier plates on the customer’s equipment had broken. The parts themselves were fine for the job. The problem was the grade of material they were made from.
PROBLEM
The plates that failed were the customer’s own existing parts. Same size, same fit, same function. What let them down was the material. The grade it was made from wasn’t strong enough for the load the plates carry, so they cracked and gave out. Replacing them with more of the same part in the same material would have led straight back to the same failure. To fix it properly, the plates had to be remade in something that could actually stand up to the work.
SOLUTION
Custom Concepts started from the broken parts. There were no drawings to work from, so the plates were reverse engineered and redrawn in CAD to match the originals exactly, same dimensions and same fit. From there a better grade of material was ordered, one suited to the load the plates carry, and the parts were machined complete in the Custom Concepts shop. Same part, stronger material.
Outcome
The customer got a direct replacement that fits straight back into their equipment, with none of the changes that come from switching to a different part. The difference is in the material. The new plates are made from a grade that holds up to what the originals couldn’t, so the part that kept breaking is no longer the one that fails. And because the plates are now drawn in CAD, the next set can be machined from the file whenever they’re needed.
